the experiments.

experiment one.

the childhood vignette: my roz

my first attempt to stretch the origin poem differently was to tell the same story of the rose, but told by a different perspective: a child. while the poem is just a momentous glimpse into how the rose has been feeling, i initially envisioned this experiment to provide a bigger story. this vignette was to be three parts, however what is on our left is just part One, “we go outside.”

experiment two.

the academic blog post: no title.

an essay was the genre i initially envisioned for this experiment. i wasn’t quite sure what kind: academic, persuasive, expository? i hadn’t yet decided, but all i knew was because my original piece was a poem, i wanted to step out of the realm of the story of this rose, and research and view poetry as a genre in general.

experiment three.

the mock-up poetry zine: fuck that noise

during this experiment, i decided to do a collaged poetry zine, comprised of my own poems, including the origin piece. the theme of this zine is what is tasted throughout this original poem: utter spoiledness, depression, melancholy, and anger (which is quite different from the other experiments). it was towards the end of the semester when i felt confident in pursuing this experiment to completion. since i had decided early on that this would be my ultimate project, i dove in, exploring and writing poems about the the darker struggles of my past. trigger warning here: topics may include previous eating disorders, body image, depression, and self-harm.

on the left, is an original mock-up cover for the zine. there is no transition between experimenting the third time, and working on the actual project, so let's just go there.
